Originally starting as the Knitting and Crochet club, Arts & Crafts was founded by Rabia Xie, the first club president, in Semester 2 of 2024. As the club grew the name changed to more accurately reflect who was asking about the club, and our logo and branding grew to reflect the club culture and connection we wanted to foster.
Our Club Pillars are what we as a club prioritise and believe are important. They inform what we do, the events we host, and what is in our Code of Conduct.
Creativity and expression are key to arts and crafts of all kinds. Showing the unique ways you think and do things and sharing that with others is amazing!
Learning and growing as you go is important for the skills you already have and the ones you want to learn. We all start somewhere, why not keep building on it?
Arts and crafts are often thought of as a solo task, but we disagree! Arts and crafts bring us together, from the complex cultural aspects of arts and design to the simplicity of learning from a friend or family member. Arts and crafts are better when we work together.
Everyone can be an artist, and everyone should be given a space where they can explore that. We value the power of a diverse and welcoming space. It isn't enough to include people, we want you to feel are safe and have a sense of belonging with us.
Arts and crafts have been shown to have an incredibly positive impact on mental health, and as an on-campus club we know the stress of life can be a lot. That is why we aim to be a calming space and put work into creating a supportive environment for everyone's mental health and wellbeing.
